Emeritus Professor Clive Smallman

Emeritus Professor Clive Smallman is an established higher education advisor, professional director, and higher education executive. To this point, he has contributed to the registration and accreditation (or renewal of same) of 21 institutes of higher education, including contributing to actions in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (now the Administrative Review Tribunal) and a recent comprehensive governance review.

He was responsible for the development, accreditation, and implementation of the Higher Education Leadership Institute’s (“HELI”) Master of eLearning, and the development of its Master of Research (accredited in under three months). He previously developed a Master of Management program for Bradford University, UK, and a Doctor of Business Administration program for what is now Tias Business School in the Netherlands. Clive has taught at the University of Cambridge MBA, the University of Bradford MBA, Federation University’s MBA (in Shenzhen), and York St John University’s MBA. He has supervised more than 120 MBA capstone project reports, 10 research masters and 17 doctorates.

His experience spans public and private sector higher education. He is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Academic Boards of ASTRA Institute of Higher Education and Skyline Higher Education Australia (both recently registered and accredited by TEQSA), and CEO of Kingsford Institute of Higher Education (a start-up). Further, Clive was Higher Research Degree Coordinator at HELI, where he was formerly Dean. He was also formerly Interim Dean of ECA College of Health Sciences and President of Asia Pacific International College, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Business at Western Sydney University. 

Emeritus Professor Clive SmallmanPrior to Australia, Prof. Smallman held appointments in New Zealand and the UK, including a Research Fellowship at the Judge Business School and the Isaac Newton Trust Teaching Fellowship at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge. His PhD, from Bradford University Management School, UK, is in risk management. He holds a masters in artificial intelligence, international business, and management learning. Clive is a Chartered Professional Fellow of the British Computer Society and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
