Each week, the best-performing BSG companies measured on 4 performance variables (Overall Score, EPS, ROE, and Stock Price) are honoured on this page.
During the week of Monday, 11-Mar through Sunday, 17-Mar there were 5050 teams from 237 colleges/universities participating in the simulation world-wide.
The Top performances for each week are posted every Sunday night at 23:59 hours, GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
To be eligible for listing as a "Most Outstanding Corporate Citizen", a company must have earned at least three Gold Star Awards for Corporate Citizenship -- these awards are presented annually by the World Council for Exemplary Corporate Citizenship to the company in each industry that spends the highest percentage of revenues for corporate social responsibility and citizenship initiatives.
The Best-Strategy Invitational (BSI) is a global competition among high-performing BSG companies from around the world. Hosted and administered by the BSG author team, the BSI is held over a two-week period each May, August, and December.
Any student-team finishing in 1st place in the BSG simulation exercise conducted at their school, college, or university will receive an invitation to participate in the BSI.
All proceeds from the $US 10.00 registration fee paid by each participant are donated to The United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF (www.unicef.org).
UBSS has integrated the Business Strategy Game as the cornerstone for experiential learning at UBSS.
The business simulation program, developed in the United States, provides students with a real-life decision-making simulation model pitting student teams against student team in a competition format on a global forum.
The use of the BSG system is the core scenario based element for two subjects, Strategic Business Simulation in the MBA Entrepreneurial stream and the Capstone project in the undergraduate programs.
The capstone project is the penultimate subject to be completed by all students enrolled in the both the Bachelor of Accounting and Bachelor of Business programs.
The system provides an independent marking score which is used to rank the teams in the class basis and on a global basis.
UBSS has embraced experiential learning, taking key aspects of real commercial scenarios and incorporating them into the learning and teaching program.
Learning in the experiential program involves enhancing the BSG core program with involvement from external senior executives from the business community.
The students produce executive reports based on the company’s performance for presentation to executive style Board/management meeting scenarios.
The external executives present at the meetings provide an objective review of both the presentations and company performance reports by students and provide feedback and assessments of the students’ work.
The BSG is a simulation game which has been designed to develop both cognitive and analytical skills in students. With students drawing on foundation technical skills and learnings provided by UBSS degree programs.
The BSG is a commercial strategy and decision-making based virtual company platform which requires a team of students to analyze a range of business information across key specific areas in a global manufacturing company assigned and registered to the team.
The students formulate business strategy and make decisions relating to their virtual company across a number of distinct departments; operations, human resources, marketing and financial divisions in the company.
Competition in the virtual global market is provided by the other teams enrolled in the game at that time, including global and student teams in the same domestic class.
Given the global nature of the game this has been as many 2,500 teams worldwide.
Each team’s performance is assessed after each trading period or decision round (normally three rounds or years of operation). A series of computer-generated algorithms interpret the decisions and compare each team allocated to the industry.
The teams are ranked in order of merit based on five key parameters which carry equal weight:
Return on Equity
Earnings per share
Brand or image rating
A credit rating
An extensive suite of operational and financial reports for each team is produced after each round of decision making. This information is then used by the students to prepare management reports .
The BSG is integrated into both the Capstone(undergraduate) and Strategic Business Simulation (MBA) subjects.
The students compete on a global arena. The scores for each round are calculated based on points score awarded for each of the on the five parameters.
In July 2018 (trimester 2) a talented group of MBA entrepreneurial students completed an outstanding achievement by tying for first in the overall game to date score based on the world-wide teams engaged in the simulation game 1665 teams, competing across 117 colleges.
In addition to the the overall game score , the students are recognised for high achievements in the other categories including highest earnings per share.
A number of student teams have also performed successfully across a number of other categories in previous trimesters.
