Composed, produced, arranged and performed by Adjunct Professor Art Phillips in 2020 when COVID-19 begun and we entered our first lockdown. The song was inspired as a way to show our students, who were no longer allowed to be on campus face-to-face, how much UBSS cares about them and their welfare in this time of a viral ‘global pandemic’.
The song, Academic Pandemic, was generously created and donated to UBSS by Adjunct Professor Art Phillips as a way of stimulating media interest and piquing student engagement. He uses the song during his online classes for postgraduate students with great success. UBSS must be one of the few schools in the world to have its own song!
Art first created the lyrics one afternoon, set up to inspire like an advertising jingle and decided to score an upbeat musical groove and song around the words using a southern-flavoured rock band feel. Art then performed all the instrument parts in the music track and even sang it himself with a raw gravely sounding vocal. Art is not a singer by trade, as he is a guitarist, musician, composer and producer; you can read more on his successful music production label, 101 Music Pty Ltd®.
The message in the song is to heighten the importance of learning ‘here at UBSS’, and that ‘we are all caring about you’, our students. A pandemic is a worldwide global spread of a disease – and in our case, we are focused and committed to continue teaching you by spreading academia to our students, all across the world by supporting you to continue your scholarship.
The song is officially released globally and is readily accessible in all the major stores.
